Missing in action at Saltville VA 10/2/1864 - Mortally wounded at Saltville VA by minie ball throught the left lung, left leg and Left shoulder. Was carried by his brother Thomas to a hospital a mile this side of the battleground but was too badly wounded to transport. Next morning was murdered by the rebel forces, along with all others they left.
